Polish PM Accuses Zondacrypto of Legislative Interference

  • Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk accused Zondacrypto of utilizing Russian funds to influence domestic politicians who oppose cryptocurrency regulations.
  • The allegations occurred ahead of a parliamentary vote to override a presidential veto on a bill aligning Poland with the EU’s MiCA framework.
  • Zondacrypto is simultaneously facing scrutiny over delayed customer withdrawals and an inaccessible wallet containing 4,500 BTC.

Polish Executive Branch Alleges Legislative Interference by Zondacrypto

Zondacrypto, a prominent cryptocurrency trading platform operating within the European market, is currently the subject of direct government scrutiny. According to reports dated April 18, 2026, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has formally linked the exchange to activities categorized as legislative interference.

The public statements from the Prime Minister place the exchange at the center of a developing political and regulatory review. Authorities are examining the specific channels through which the trading platform may have attempted to influence state policy or legal frameworks governing digital assets.

Russian Funding and Political Sponsorship Allegations

Addressing the Polish parliament, Tusk alleged that Zondacrypto provided financial support to politicians who actively opposed the government’s attempts to regulate the crypto-asset market. “The source of this company’s financial success is not only Russian money linked to the so-called Bratva, one of the most important mafia groups in Russia, but also to Russian secret services,” Tusk said in his speech. He also cited the exchange’s sponsorship of a Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) event in Poland earlier this year.

The dispute centers on legislation intended to bring Poland into compliance with the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. Polish President Karol Nawrocki has vetoed the regulatory bill twice in the past six months. Tusk argued that the political resistance to the legislation serves the specific financial interests of Zondacrypto.

Liquidity Concerns and Inaccessible Bitcoin Reserves

The political controversy coincides with operational issues at the exchange. Customers have recently reported delayed asset withdrawals. Zondacrypto cited the implementation of new security and transaction-monitoring systems as the cause of the processing delays.

Scrutiny of the platform’s reserves has also intensified. Zondacrypto CEO Przemysław Kral confirmed that the exchange currently lacks access to a cold wallet holding 4,500 BTC. Kral stated this is due to a lost private key associated with the company’s former chief executive.

Despite the inaccessible funds, Kral maintained that the platform remains solvent and secure. He noted that the exchange holds sufficient liquidity across its broader infrastructure. Concurrently, Poland’s National Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a formal investigation into potential irregularities at the company.
